Looking for a society?

Is there something you’re passionate about? Do we have a club or society for it here within the SU? If the answer is no then why don’t you start a new group for it!

Here in the SU we have over 60 clubs and societies available for students, but we’re always looking to start up new groups. Over the freshers’ fortnight we asked you for your suggestions for new groups, with ideas mentioned including; Comedy Club, Boxing, Mountain Biking, Orchestra, Indoor Games, Handball, Lacrosse, Choir, and even a Come Dine with Me group!
All you need to do to get affiliated as a new group is to get together at least 10 members (sports teams require more) and fill in an annual plan. The annual plan is a document that just asks for some extra information about your group. The SIDC Office will be able to give you help and guidance filling that in if it’s needed.

Activities and Participation Officer Jack Banks said: “Clubs and Societies are a great way for students to make the most of their time at UCLan and we’d love to have as many new groups as possible here in the SU.”

Any new club can apply for funding from a University scheme to get them started. Inspired Ideas is a small grant scheme that allows students to bid for up to £100 worth of funding for a specific activity or event. This could include materials or equipment for a potential new society, or promotion materials to advertise a new club. More information about the scheme, as well as the application form, is available here.

Anybody interested in setting up a club or society can contact SUClubsandsocs@uclan.ac.uk, or come and visit us in the SIDC office.
